Angels of the Amazon
Angels of the Amazon (AoA) is an NGO founded in 2007 to support twelve communities living along the Tahuayo River Basin. The nonprofit focuses on key areas for local development, including education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
The Tahuayo River is a tributary located roughly 100 miles from the city of Iquitos. Its remote location makes it challenging for families and children to access essential resources, including school supplies, medical care, and job opportunities.
This photo project documented AoA’s missions during the dry season of 2014 (June to August). During this period, the NGO rebuilt a school, renovated community centers, and delivered specialized care to a regional clinic, supporting the health, education, and wellbeing of roughly 8,000 people living in this part of the Amazon Basin.
